Habitat and Description: In herbaceus vegetation in "barrens" in openings in post oak woodland on gravelly soils mapped as deep, moderately well drained, strongly acid, loamy fine sand Aquic Paleustalfs (Straber Series) on level upland underlain by Willis Formation. Barrens vegetation dominated by Bigelowia nuttallii. Other associates included Agalinis strictifolia, Aristida longespica, Aster patens, Bigelowia nuttallii, Bothriochloa ischaemum (rare), Bouteloua hirsuta, Croton capitatus, Hedyotis nigricans, Helenium amarum, Hypericum drummondii, Liatris sp., Nothoscordum bivalve, Opuntia sp., Palafoxia rosea, Paspalum plicatulum, Polygonum ramosissimum, Schizachyrium scoparium, Sporobolus junceus, Trichostema dichotoma. Locally abundant.
