Habitat and Description: Cleared ground between road and moderately dense pine woods. Gray sandy clay and clayey sand w. shell fragments. Baccharis hal.-Pinus taeda-Liquidambar complex. Perennial herb, 1-1.3 m. Strongly narrow upright. Several stems clumped together as suckers from woody base. Very brittle. Inflorescence parts showing are buff. Yellow staminal masses. Infl. has musky odor.
